Note to self: Nevermind that your wife’s birthday is close to Halloween. Nevermind that you have a long tradition of including some kind of Halloween decoration or googah with her birthday gifts. DO NOT include a little stuffed witch with her gifts for her 50th birthday. Implied messages will be assumed.
OK, our team has got to stop this. Furman barely edged out the Citadel in triple overtime after coming from a fourteen point deficit. The turnaround only occured after back-up quarterback Renaldo Gray took over from Ingle Martin. Martin supposedly suffered from either a foot injury or cramps, which removed him from the game. The pastor of a Charlotte Harbor church had 16 church members booted from … Read More “Cosmic convergence” »
Yippee!!! The score almost changed with seconds to go, as App State made a field goal attempt. Fortunately, they missed.

Last night I officially met the Fourth Presbyterian choir and had my first rehearsal with them. I don’t start until October 9, but the Wednesday before that is supposed to be a celebration of the tenure of Dr. Kyser, and it would have been awkward for me to follow that with a rehearsal.
Fall officially arrived last week. You couldn’t tell it from the climate around here. Sure, the leaves are falling, but think it’s a case of drought-induced panic rather than seasonal instinct. Over the weekend the temps hit the mid-90’s, which has got to be a record for upstate South Carolina. So here we are at … Read More “Equinox, Schmequinox” »
Last night as we were getting ready to go to dinner my cell phone rang. Mind you, not very many people have my cell number, and I like it that way. So I was very surprised when it turned out to be a reporter from the Greenville News. This was the same woman who plastered my picture on the front page several weeks ago. I thought this would once again be about the flooding in our neighborhood, but I was wrong.
